Venue
Accessibility
A
combination of new build and conversion of an existing Victorian
School, all of our meeting rooms are fully accessible with automatic
doors, accessible toilets
and
a
number of dedicated
car parking spaces for blue badge holders, which are conveniently
located next to the main conference entrance.
In
addition, we can supply page magnifiers and talking signs for visually
impaired people, dog bowls for guide dogs, abilitynet software with
laptop 'add-ons', as well as adjustable tables, supported powered
seating, and other equipment to assist people with a wide range of
disabilities. The venue has wireless telephone conference facilities,
ideal for people who need to participate in meetings but who are
unable to attend the venue. Most of our standard conference equipment can be adjusted
in height to suit
the needs of wheelchair users, and all
of
our meeting rooms and reception areas have a good
quality hearing loop fully installed by the RNID. We
can also provide individual hand held loop equipment if required.
Our
rooms are signposted using high visibility and/or braille signs and
the
venue
is
publicly
signposted
by REACT (Wayfinder) units from Micklegate
to assist blind and visually impaired people.
These
units automatically speak information to anyone who approaches the
sign wearing a small REACT unit. The
signs can speak in one of four different languages - English, Urdu,
Bengali and Gujarati. REACT units
are available from the York Blind and Partially Sighted Society, 61
Bootham, York. Tel: (01904) 636269
All
of our conference rooms are at ground floor level (with a ramp leading
to the Main Hall) and there are lifts
to upper floor offices. In addition, fire refuge
points for wheelchair users are located on the these floors in the
main building and visual as well as audio fire alarms are used in the
CVS offices. All accessible toilets are fitted emergency call
units in case assistance is needed.
